Why Lil Skies is not your Typical Soundcloud Rapper

At just 19 years of age, Lil Skies has risen to fame extremely quick in the last two months. This is a phenomenon that the music industry has seen recently; young artists blowing up and becoming rich extremely quickly, Lil Pump being a prime example.

Lil Skies is different though; he is not your typical soundcloud rapper. When you take a deeper look at the Pennsylvania native, there are a few things that set him apart from the rest.
Skies got his first taste of fame when he dropped “Red Roses” with Landon Cube. Not long after Red Roses, the duo dropped “Nowadays”. The two tracks have nearly 90 million plays, combined.
Both of these tracks were included on Skies debut album Life of a Dark Rose. Also on the project, are tracks such as “Cloudy Skies”, “Welcome to the Rodeo”, and “Lust” all with over 5 million plays respectively.
So it is safe to say that Lil Skies blew up quick. But what exactly makes Skies different?
To start, Skies has been rapping since he was 14. He was not just a random kid who made one hit that will go away by next month. Skies has been grinding for a while now and it is really beginning to pay off.

If you do some research on Skies, you’ll find that he’s had bars from the jump. A prime example is this video that he recorded on his 16th birthday. A 16 year old Lil Skies freestyles over Drake’s 0-100 and kills it with ease.
Even now, there are plenty of instances in which Skies shows off some killer wordplay and smooth lyrics. Songs like “Welcome to the Rodeo” and “Drift” along with his verse on Wifisfuneral’s track titled “LilSkiesFuneral” all show that Skies can kill a beat when he’s called upon.
What I'm trying to get at is that Lil Skies came up out from under all of the other tool freshman and is shaping up to be a great rapper. When you look at some of these other younger guys after they make a few hits, they tend to stagnate because they do not have the ability to keep up with the same creativity in their music. Skies however, has been making good music for years, it's just now, he is getting noticed for it.
Skies has never changed his style and most likely won't just for appeal. Like I said above, he's been making good music for years, the difference is that now his music is turning heads. I think Skies has plenty of ability that can take him to the top of the game as long as he just sticks to what he's already been doing for years now.
