Jalen Santoy: An Underground Artist with Mainstream Potential

Typically known for his smooth flow and consistent bars, Jalen Santoy is definitely an artist who I consider to be on the come up. With popular tracks such as “Foreplay” and “No Peace”, Santoy has already shown the industry that he has serious talent.

I think what makes Santoy so special is that he delivers consistently on every track with the same style, yet he always keeps it fresh. The 24 year old has shown that he's not scared to switch it up and kill a beat when he wants to, as he shows on “Off the Glass”.

Santoy’s last major project was his Charlie Eastern EP, a 7 track project with a pretty diverse array of songs. From slower songs such as “Good Winter” to more upbeat songs such as “CP3”, the South Carolina born rapper shows just how complex his skill set can be. An all around solid project, the Charlie Eastern EP is hopefully a sign of what's to come from Santoy. After dropping such a solid debut project, it will be interesting to see how he can follow up the EP.

I think that Jalen Santoy is in a very unique group of young artists who all possess a massive amount of potential. I'd put him in the same category with people such as Saba, Isaiah Rashad, and Kota the Friend. All relatively young artists with impeccably smooth flow. All of these artists are guys who have showed some great potential and dropped some heat in the process. They're all artists that have some very obvious raw talent, and have the potential to blow up if they stay true to themselves, and by that I mean stick to their own unique sound.

Santoy has already shown that he can make hit tracks at will, as he’s done with the success of “Foreplay”. Now at almost 46 million plays on Spotify, it’s already started to bring some level of attention to the young artist. I think that if Santoy were able to craft a few more hit songs, he would quickly see himself become a household name.

2017 was a slow year for the now L.A. based rapper, having only released two tracks, “Vices” and . This could be a contributing factor as to why maybe people do not seem to talk about him as much, seeing as though how competitive the last year shaped up to be with album releases. Hopefully 2018 is a year where we really see Santoy take his career to another level. I personally would really love to see him drop some new music and maybe even a new project at some point in the year. I think that another solid project from Santoy would really see him take off.

Does he have music on the way? Will he drop an album this year? We don't know right now, but what I do know is that Jalen Santoy is a young artist with a massive ceiling who will not be going away anytime soon.
